The Bono IA in the Canary Islands: the same as on the mainland, with three differences.

The Bono IA is a national plan and nothing published says it will be different in the Canary Islands. What is different is what surrounds it: the Canary Islands government's own grants, the processes that only exist here, and having the person who builds it on the same island.

First difference

While the voucher arrives, the Canary Islands already have a grant of their own.

It's called Digiempresas and it's run by ACIISI, the Canary Islands government's innovation agency. It opened in June 2025 and in April 2026, and both times it closed within fifteen days.

  • How much700,000 euros in 2026, between 5,000 and 25,000 euros per project depending on the work and the size of the company. In 2025 it was 950,000 euros.
  • What it pays forImplementing ERP, CRM, data analysis tools, process automation, cybersecurity and applications based on artificial intelligence.
  • Who can applySMEs more than three years old, with their registered and tax address in the Canary Islands and at least one employee, according to the rules of the two calls so far.
  • WhenIn 2026, from 7 to 21 April. Fifteen calendar days from publication in the Canary Islands official gazette. With that window, either you have the project defined beforehand or you don't make it.

Second difference

Here there are processes no mainland program handles out of the box.

2 regionswill start the Red Neurona before the end of 2026, with 100 SMEs. The plan doesn't say which. In 2027 it will be ten regions and 5,000 companies.

Third difference: being on the island.

If the Canary Islands aren't among the two pilot regions, nothing is lost: the voucher's general call is the same for everyone. What changes is who builds it for you. I'm in Santa Cruz de Tenerife; on the island I come to the company, and in the rest of the Canary Islands I work remotely with on-site days when needed. In high season, when something stops, that matters more than it seems when you sign.

What people ask me from the islands.

Will the Bono IA be different in the Canary Islands?
Nothing published says so. It's a national plan with 600 million euros for the general call, expected before the end of 2027. What does exist separately, and has opened two years running, is Digiempresas, the Canary Islands government's digitalisation grant.
Can I apply for Digiempresas and the Bono IA for the same thing?
That's for the voucher's rules to say, and they don't exist yet. The usual rule in public grants is that the same cost isn't subsidised twice, so it's better to plan which project goes to which grant than to apply for both for the same thing.
Will Digiempresas open again in 2027?
It hasn't been announced, but it opened in 2025 and 2026, both times with a fifteen-day window. If it opens the same way, whoever has the project defined before it's published makes it, and whoever starts thinking about it that day doesn't.
Do you work on all the islands?
Yes. On site in Tenerife with no obligation, and on the other islands remotely with planned on-site days when needed. In an AI project almost everything is done by video call; what has to be seen in person is how people work, and that gets planned.
